Despite earning one standings point, Anaheim's winless skid hit 10 games as the club fell to 23-45-11 on the season. The Ducks will conclude the 2022-23 season with a three-game homestand at Honda Center, beginning Sunday against Colorado.
Down to five defenseman after Scott Harrington was injured in warmups and unable to play, Cam Fowler logged an NHL-record 38:55 of ice time (ice time stat tracking began in 1997-98 season).
Ryan Strome tallied three points in his 700th NHL game to lead the Ducks offensively. Adam Henrique scored twice, clinching his sixth 20-goal season in the NHL. Max Jones also scored. Olle Eriksson Ek made 33 saves in net for Anaheim in his NHL debut.
Hayton, Christian Fischer, Lawson Crouse, Clayton Keller and Matias Maccelli scored for the Coyotes, who snapped a nine-game losing streak of their own. Rookie netminder Ivan Prosvetov earned the victory in net with 25 saves.
Both sides would light the lamp before the end of the first period, with Anaheim answering an early Arizona goal on a milestone marker for Henrique.
Fischer put the 'Yotes ahead first late in a strong shift spent in the Anaheim defensive zone, finding free space in the low slot and swiping home a centering pass from J.J. Moser behind the net.
The goal was Fischer's 13th of the season, his second-best toal of his six-year NHL career. Fischer has collected three points in his last seven games.
With the first of his two assists on the afternoon, Moser hits 30 points in his second NHL season. A second-round pick from Switzerland in 2019, Moser ranks second in NHL games played (123) among his draft class, one spot ahead of Mason McTavish (87).
Rookie Jack McBain tallied the secondary assist, his fifth helper in the last seven games. McBain tallied just 12 points in his first 62 games with a -10 rating, but now owns 3-9=12 points in his last 18 appearances with an even plus/minus.
Quickly down a goal in the season's final road game, the Ducks responded two minutes later, also taking advantage of a strong forecheck for a second-chance opportunity. Just as a penalty to defenseman Victor Soderstrom expired, Fowler pinched down the left wing wall to poke the puck free for Strome in the corner. Strome then turned and delivered a one-time feed to Henrique open in the slot, which the veteran lifted over Prosvetov's glove for the tying goal.
