Eager to get into game mode after a summer of training and a few days worth of practice, the Ducks rookies opened their 2018 Vegas Rookie Faceoff schedule with a bang.
Facing the LA Kings rookies, the Ducks roared to an 8-3 victory at City National Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Anaheim's 2018 first-round draft pick Isac Lundestrom led the way with two goals, while Deven Sideroff, Josh Mahura, Max Comtois, Hunter Drew, Jack Kopacka and Simon Benoit also found the back of the net for the Ducks. Olle Eriksson Ek gave up three goals on 39 shots in the victory.

Jaret Anderson-Dolan scored two goals and Mark Rassell had one for the Kings, while Matthew Villalta (29 saves) went the distance in net.
Despite the one-sided score, it was LA that actually opened the scoring on a goal from Anderson-Dolan with 6.9 seconds remaining in the first period. It would prove to be the only lead the Kings would have in the game.
Once the second period started, Anaheim wasted little time evening the score. Racing down the ice with speed, Lundestrom found space between the dots and roofed a wrist shot into the right corner. Lundestrom, selected in the first round (23rd overall) in the 2018 NHL Draft, recorded 15 points (6g/9a) in 42 games with Lulea HF in the Swedish Hockey League last season. Lundestrom skated tonight on a line with Kopacka and Kiefer Sherwood.
The Ducks took the lead not long after when Sideroff got a piece of Giovanni Fiore's shot to make the score 2-1. Sideroff recorded eight points (4g/4a) in 47 games with the San Diego Gulls last season. Fiore, meanwhile, made his NHL debut last season with Anaheim, but spent the majority of the season with the Gulls where he earned 30 points (18g/12a) in 65 games as a rookie.
On their second power play of the night, the Ducks took full advantage when Mahura sent a blistering shot over Villalta's left shoulder to make it 3-1 in the late stages of the second period. Mahura is coming off a stellar WHL career that most recently saw him post 69 points (22g/47a) in 60 games with the WHL Regina Pats.
The Kings were held off the scoreboard in the middle frame due in large part to Eriksson Ek, who made key stops on two separate breakaways - one while the Ducks were on the power play.
LA would cut the deficit in half just 46 seconds into the third period courtesy of a goal from Rassell.
Lundestrom put the Ducks back up by two goals when he buried a loose puck in the slot with 13:37 remaining in regulation. Minutes later, Comtois finished off a pretty power-play sequence to make it 5-2 Anaheim.
Unanswered goals from Drew, Kopacka and Benoit eventually made it 8-2 in favor of Anaheim. Anderson-Dolan got one back for LA to make it 8-3 on his second goal of the game.
The Ducks will return to action tomorrow night at 5 p.m. against the Colorado Avalanche. Like tonight, the game will be streamed on AnaheimDucks.com.
