The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the 17th annual Fedorin Cup will be held on Saturday, Aug. 23 at THE RINKS – Anaheim ICE presented by Honda. The charity hockey game and VIP Casino Night dinner will benefit the Athletic Sports Fund of America (ASFA) as well as the NHL’s Hockey Fights Cancer initiative, the American Cancer Society, and the USC Norris Cancer Center. A stellar lineup of current NHL players and Ducks alumni will appear in the 2014 Fedorin Cup.
The Athletic Sports Fund of America was established in 1998 in honor of Eric Fedorin, a local hockey player who battled brain cancer. In addition to Eric Fedorin, the 2014 event will be played in memory of Robert “B” Hutchinson who passed away from cancer on March 27 of this year. Hutchinson was an integral part of the Fedorin Cup since its inception in 1998 and his presence will be missed.
The charity game will feature past and present NHL players as well as local celebrities. Among the confirmed are Anaheim Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf, Anaheim Duck and Long Beach native Emerson Etem, former L.A. Kings Craig Johnson and Noah Clarke, along with former Ducks players Jeff Friesen, Sean Pronger, J.F. Jomphe and Todd Marchant. Former Maple Leaf Richie Costello is also on board.
The pregame party will begin at 2:30 p.m., followed by warm-ups at 3:45 p.m. and puck drop at 4 p.m. in a ‘Team Canada’ vs. ‘Team USA’ format. Festivities also include a silent auction, postgame VIP party under the Breakaway Sports Lounge tent outside Anaheim ICE and casino-style gaming.
A variety of VIP packages for the 2014 Fedorin Cup and Casino Night celebration are available for purchase through www.ASFAmerica.com. In addition, fans can also bid for an amazing opportunity to play in the hockey game alongside NHL greats in an online auction. Admission to the Fedorin Cup is $20 for adults and $10 for children ages 9-17 (8-and-under are free). Anaheim ICE is located at 300 W. Lincoln Ave., Anaheim, CA 92805.
