On a night when fan favorite Teemu Selanne
skated in perhaps his final game in Winnipeg, the Ducks came out with a hard-fought 3-2 victory at the MTS Centre to close out a three-game road trip.
Selanne was cheered loudly during warm ups and again in a special video tribute during the first period. And just like his first return on December 17, 2011, Selanne was cheered whenever he touched the puck.
Although he didn't get on scoresheet, the 43-year-old was voted the game's First Star. As he made one final victory lap around the ice, fans saluted the man who gave them so much during his time in Winnipeg.
"It was a very special night," he said after the game. "I knew it was going to be my last one here. It was emotional, but i tried to keep my emotions [under control]. Great memories here. It was good to leave with a victory and keep going."
Selanne came close on several occasions to get on the board, but netminder Ondrej Pavelec thwarted all four of his chances.
"I was hoping I could get one, but the win was most important," he said. "But, it's always nice to score. Maybe those are coming."
