Preview: Ducks Open Preseason Tonight at San Jose

by Kyle Shohara @kyleshohara / AnaheimDucks.com

After four consecutive days of battling each other, the Ducks will get the chance to face someone new.

Tonight they open their 2017 preseason schedule on the road against the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center, the first of seven games on their exhibition slate. Game time is set for 7 p.m. PT and will be broadcast locally on XEPRS 1090 AM. [NOTE: You can also listen to the game on AM830's official website and mobile app]. Tonight's game will not be televised, but some preseason games will be, and a broadcast schedule will be released soon.

Yesterday, head coach Randy Carlyle said the lineup tonight would be a combination of experienced players and those getting their first taste of NHL preseason hockey. A roster spot or two is up for grabs on defense with Hampus Lindholm and Sami Vatanen still recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, so players like Josh Mahura, Jacob Larsson, Marcus Pettersson and Andy Welinski figure to play in the majority of these games. There could also be a spot open up front, so youngsters like Jack Kopacka, Max Jones, Sam Steel and Kevin Roy also figure to see plenty of game action.

Anaheim's training camp roster still consists of 62 players, so only about a third of those will make the trip to San Jose. The Ducks will conclude this back-to-back set tomorrow night at Honda Center against the Arizona Coyotes.

San Jose's training camp roster currently stands at 42 players after the club made 13 cuts yesterday. Among them were 11 players assigned to the club's AHL affiliate (San Jose Barracuda) and two returned to their respective junior clubs.

UPDATE: Judging by the morning skate, line combinations for the Ducks will be as follows.
