Preview: Ducks Host Sharks in Final Preseason Home Game

by Kyle Shohara @kyleshohara /

The final few days of the preseason are upon us, as tonight the Ducks host the visiting San Jose Sharks at Honda Center.

This marks the final preseason home game for the Ducks, who will close out their seven-game exhibition schedule on Saturday at STAPLES Center against the LA Kings. Anaheim enters tonight's game with a 2-3-0 record on the heels of a 6-4 victory over the Arizona Coyotes at Tucson Arena on Monday. Nick Ritchie led the way with two goals and three points, while Ryan Miller went the distance in net.

Ritchie paces the Ducks in scoring thus far with four points (2g/2a) in four games. Jakob Silfverberg ranks second with three points (1g/2a) in two games and seven players are tied with two points apiece.

Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle says he isn't concerned with the few open rosters spots up for grabs. Instead, he's focused on the team executing the game plan.

"I'm just worried about us playing our game," he said. "We have people that have earned an opportunity to still be here. There are still some people left. We can't play them all. We have a 23-man roster, so those decisions that are coming are going to be the toughest ones."

The Sharks have not played since a 5-4 shootout victory over the Coyotes last Saturday. San Jose enters tonight's game with a 3-0 record, but still have two preseason contests remaining after this one (Saturday vs. Arizona and Sunday at Las Vegas).

Mikkel Boedker, who has appeared in two of the three preseason games for San Jose, is among seven Sharks with three points apiece. Boedker and rookie forward Kevin Labanc share the team lead in goals (3), while Labanc ranks second in shots on goal (10).
