Anaheim enters tonight's contest with points in four consecutive games (1-0-3, 5 points) along with points in five of the last six (2-1-3, 7 points). The Ducks are coming off a 3-2 overtime loss on Friday against the Minnesota Wild, which included goals from Adam Henrique and Kevin Roy. Henrique pushed his point streak to five games (6 points, 3g/3a), marking the second-longest scoring streak to start a Ducks career in franchise history, second only to Teemu Selanne's 15-game point streak in 1995-96.
Tonight could feature the return of Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf and right wing Jakob Silfverberg, who have practiced with the team over the last several days. Getzlaf has not played since October 29 in Carolina when a deflected puck fractured his cheekbone, requiring surgery. The 32-year-old center has appeared in six games this season. Silfverberg last played on November 29 in St. Louis and has missed five consecutive games with an upper-body injury. The 27-year-old right wing has 12 points (6g/6a) in 25 games this season, including three points in his last two games (1g/2a).
Following tonight's game, the Ducks will embark on the aforementioned six-game trip that begins Thursday in St. Louis. From there, they will take on the Washington Capitals (Saturday), New Jersey Devils (Monday, December 18), New York Rangers (Tuesday, December 19), New York Islanders (Thursday, December 21) and Pittsburgh Penguins (Saturday, December 23).
The Hurricanes enter tonight's game with a 3-4-3 mark over their last 10 games, including a 3-2 overtime loss on Saturday against the LA Kings. This is the fourth contest of a six-game road trip for Carolina, which has gone winless in the first three (3-0 L at Vancouver on December 5, 5-4 OTL at San Jose on December 7). The Canes will finish off a back-to-back set tomorrow night in Las Vegas before concluding the road trip on Friday in Buffalo. Teuvo Teravainen leads the Hurricanes in points (24), power-play points (8) and multi-point games (6), and ranks second on the team in shooting percentage this season (13.3%). The 23-year-old left wing has assists in three of his last four games and has already set a career high in multi-goal games this season (3).
This concludes the two-game season series between the Ducks and Canes, which opened with a 4-3 shootout victory for Anaheim on October 29 at PNC Arena. Ryan Miller stopped 34-of-37 shots in his Anaheim debut, including nine in overtime (one shy of the club record held by Guy Hebert - Feb. 3, 2000 at Philadelphia). Miller also extended his own NHL record for most shootout wins by an NHL goaltender (58). The Ducks have won three consecutive games vs. the Hurricanes and are 9-1-1 in the last 11 meetings. All-time, Anaheim is 19-13-3 vs. Carolina, including a 7-3-0 mark in the last 10 at Honda Center. Corey Perry leads active Ducks in career scoring vs. Carolina with 16 points (8g/8a) in 16 career games.
