Dustin Penner tallied twice to lead the Anaheim Ducks over the San Jose Sharks 6-3 on Wednesday night in preseason action at the Arrowhead Pond.
Todd Marchant added a goal and two assists and Ryan Shannon chipped in with two helpers for the Ducks who next face Vancouver on home ice Friday at 7:05 p.m.
The victory for the Ducks was the club's first of the preseason. San Jose suffered their first exhibition defeat after topping LA last night.

2nd INT - The Ducks put 22 shots on Vesa Toskala in the second period netting five goals. The Ducks have a total of 38 shots in the game through 40 minutes. Teemu Selanne leads the charge with five shots on goal, Drew Miller has four and Stanislav Chistov and Ryan Shannon each have three.
Three of Anaheim's goals were on very similar plays - passes from below the goal line that turned into one-timer goals in front of the Sharks net. Todd Marchant has a goal and two assists, Dustin Penner has two goals and an assist and Ryan Shannon has two assists. JS Giguere stopped all 10 shots faced in 30:20 of action in the contest. Both teams are 1-3 on the power play.

18:01 - Milan Michalek gets San Jose on the board. Michalek picked up a puck left for the Ducks defense by Wall and stuffs it home near-side as the Ducks netminder returned to the net. The goal is Michalek unassisted on the power play.

16:45 - Todd Fedoruk and Scott Parker have an epic battle after Anaheim's fifth goal. Fedoruk and Parker trade punches for nearly four minutes. Both men punch until they become too fatigued to continue. Both are assessed fighting majors.
16:42 - Todd Marchant makes it 5-0. Penner flips a pass from behind the net that Marchant deposits from close range. The goal is even strength - Marchant from Penner and Shannon.

9:22 - The Ducks take a 1-0 lead. Todd Marchant sprung Ryan Shannon into the clear across the Sharks' blue line. Shannon carried the puck all the way to the crease drawing Toskala to the near post. Shannon dropped a pass to a streaking Dustin Penner who buried the puck into the open net. Officially the goal is even strength - Penner from Shannon and Marchant at 9:22.
2:22 - The first fight of the game is between Ducks defenseman Shane O'Brien and Sharks winger Graham Mink. O'Brien popped Mink's helmet off and the players traded blows. O'Brien knocked Mink off balance to the ice. Fighting majors for both.

1st INT - The Ducks and Sharks skated a scoreless first period with limited action. The highlight of the period for Anaheim was simply the presence of 6', 6" defenseman Chris Pronger who is skating his first game in the Black, Gold and Orange. Pronger was paired for most of the period with Bruno St. Jacques. Pronger shattered no fewer than two sticks in the period attempting one-timers from his right-point position.
The Ducks best offensive opportunity came with slightly more than 60 seconds to play. The forward line of Perry, Getzlaf and Drew Miller put pressure on Toskala. Scott Niedermayer pinched into the offense to collect a rebound and his shot was blocked before getting to the net.
Each team was 0-1 on the power play in the first period. The Sharks best offensive opportunity came on the power play. Defenseman Scott Ferguson slid toward the net but misfired on a one-time attempt toward an open net.

Pregame: The Ducks face the San Jose Sharks at 7:05 pm at the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim. Anaheim is looking for their first victory of the preseason, falling 7-1 to the LA Kings at home on Monday. The Sharks earned a 3-1 victory over the Kings last night in Los Angeles in their first exhibition action.
JS Giguere will get the start in net tonight for the Ducks. Giguere's backup will be Michael Wall. Vesa Toskala will start for San Jose and will be backed-up by Thomas Greiss.
Among the regulars in the lineup for Anaheim include Teemu Selanne, Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf, Dustin Penner, Andy McDonald, Todd Marchant, Francois Beauchemin, Stanislav Chistov, Chris Pronger, Scott Niedermayer and Todd Fedoruk.
Last season's Hart Trophy winner Joe Thornton will not be in the lineup for San Jose nor will the NHL's leading goal scorer from a year ago, Jonathan Cheechoo. Sharks regulars who will be seeing action are Josh Gorges, Milan Michalek, Christian Ehroff, Patrick Marleau, Scott Parker, Patrick Rissmiller and Curtis Brown.
