Practice with the Ducks Essay Contest

by Staff Writer / Anaheim Ducks
The Pee Wee Iceoplex Whiteout was chosen as the winner in the third annual Practice with the Ducks Essay Contest. The team of 9- and 10-year-olds were chosen out of a pool of numerous entries from Squirt and Pee Wee teams that participate in the Future Ducks Rink Program. Each team was allowed to submit an essay explaining why they felt they team deserved the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

All team members were encouraged to give input on the essay, which could have illustrated on- or off-ice accomplishments like overcoming odds, winning a title or getting involved in the community. Each team’s captain submitted the final product.

Ducks forward Todd Marchant was part of the committee that read all of the essay entries. “It was a nice experience judging the essays the teams submitted, and we had a lot of well-written ones sent in. It was great to hear about all of the teams and their community accomplishments.”

The Pee Wee Iceoplex Whiteout’s essay included mention of their unique distinction of having identical quadruplets on their team. The Karma brothers – named Sabin, Nolan, Lennon and Mark – apparently look so alike, “their jerseys have their first name instead of their last.”

The Pee Wee Iceoplex Whiteout practices with the Ducks this Saturday at Anaheim Ice.

The Ducks would like to thank all of the teams that participated.
