Practice Report: Boudreau Gives Updates on Fowler, Heatley and Palmieri

by Staff Writer / Anaheim Ducks

After practice on Friday, head coach Bruce Boudreau gave an update on injured players Cam Fowler, Dany Heatley and Kyle Palmieri.

Fowler suffered a lower-body injury during practice on Thursday and had to be helped off the ice. Yesterday, Boudreau said the injury was a "freak, freak thing," and that team trainers said the injury "wasn't too bad." Heatley suffered a groin injury during Sunday's preseason game vs. Los Angeles at Honda Center. At the time of the injury, Boudreau said the 33-year-old would be out of the lineup for a minimum of a week. Palmieri took part in two consecutive full practices, the first time he's been able to practice fully thus far in training camp. Palmieri suffered a high ankle sprain while skating in New Jersey prior to training camp.

On Fowler
"He has a lower-body injury. He’s hopeful to be playing on the trip, so we’ll see how it goes day by day. He said he wanted to play on the trip. I don’t really know what that means, whether it’s Thursday or Saturday. He felt good today, but every time I ask a player, they say they feel good, or they feel better. We’re anticipating both him and Heatley will play on this trip."

On Palmieri
"He’s probably going to be coming on the trip. We thought that he might actually play tomorrow, but we’ll keep him out. That’ll give him four more days to get ready to play. Then you have to make a decision because he hasn’t played a preseason game. How do you handle that? I’m sure we’ll handle it the right way."
