Los Angeles 4 vs. Anaheim 3 (SO)
Sept. 25, 2014
On his performance
I felt a little rusty, but as the game went on I felt a lot better. As a team, we played our best in the third period. As the game went on, I definitely felt more like myself.
On his goal
It’s nice to get the first one and get that off of my back. But, it’s my first game and it’s the preseason. I’m really just trying to get my game ready for [October 9].
On his line with Patrick Maroon and Jakob Silfverberg
It was good. As the game went on, we were starting to find each other. We were inches away the first couple of periods, and then we finally connected. I thought we had some really good looks, but at the same time, I thought – at times – we were a little too pretty.
On tonight’s loss
When you play younger guys, they play hard. If you don’t play a good game, they beat you. We did that in Colorado. We did some good things, but the mistakes we made were mistakes that are easy to correct. They were simple, positional things. They’re easy to correct, but we have to. Their team is only going to get better.
On his line with Emerson Etem and Rickard Rakell
We had some really good stuff going. We did some good things. I was trying to support those guys. Those guys are in a position to make the team. We have a lot of competition for those positions, and those guys had a good game plan. I was happy to put our best foot forward.
Head coach Bruce Boudreau
On Kesler’s performance
I thought it took him a period to get going and understand where his linemates were, but I thought he was really good in the second and third periods.
On tonight’s game
We didn’t play very well in the second period at all. Even though the shots were a little lopsided in the first, I thought we had really good scoring opportunities. I thought in the third we played well enough to win. We played a team that only had seven or eight regulars in the lineup. We have to do better, but that’s what training camp is all about.
