Rickard Rakell
On tonight’s game

We were a little sloppy with the puck, and maybe gripped the stick a little too hard. But at the same time, we wanted to work hard to whole game. We just couldn’t connect tonight. There were a lot of lost pucks on our blueline and on their blueline. It was back and forth the whole game. They were quick in transition. We have to work on that.

Everybody wants to show what they can do in camp. Sometimes you try to do too much, and sometimes you try to do too little because you don’t want to make any mistakes.

John Gibson
On tonight’s game

It was a learning experience. Obviously, we had a lot of young guys. There were some [goals] that I would have liked to have back. You play in the preseason, make mistakes and learn from them. We had the split-squad game last night and we had guys come over and combine two teams. The chemistry isn’t all there yet, but you play the preseason to get it out.

On any positives from tonight
I felt a lot better as the game went on. It was the first game in a while.

Head coach Bruce Boudreau
On tonight’s game

This was a really young lineup for us. When you get those two fights in the first couple of minutes, and then you’re going to 10 forwards, it was a little hard to get back on track. But, it’s still no excuse. It’s early. The group of guys hadn’t played too much together. I still thought we had good energy. There was inexperience of being able to finish when we had the opportunities to finish.

On Gibson’s performance
It was uneven. He’d like to have a couple of those shots back. As the game went on, he had to make better saves. They didn’t have a lot of chances early on. It’s his first game, and I recall what happened in his first game last year. His character will come through in this.
