Postgame Quotes: October 9 at Pittsburgh

by Staff Writer / Anaheim Ducks

Postgame quotes following Anaheim's 6-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins at CONSOL Energy Center on Oct. 9, 2014

Corey Perry
On his hat trick

It wasn’t enough. We have to be better defensively as a line. We gave up that late goal in the second period. Those things are on us. The shorthanded one was a dagger. Our power play played well, but as a whole, it could be better.

On what Ryan Kesler brings to the power play
He’s a guy who can shoot the puck, and Sami [Vatanen] is back there shooting, as well. Getzy [Ryan Getzlaf] is finding the seams and we’re moving the puck really well. But at the end of the day, it’s not enough. We can do better.

On John Gibson
We can be better in front of him. He made some big saves, and he tried to keep us in it. We had some breakdowns in front of him that led to a couple of empty net goals that he didn’t have a chance on.

Head coach Bruce Boudreau
On the positives from tonight’s game

I guess the power play. We scored three goals, and Corey Perry scored three goals. They moved it around pretty good from the blueline in. We made a bad play to give them a shorthanded goal when we were still in it in the first shift of the third period. That was obviously deflating. Other than that, our fight back was great. At some points, it looked like we were in awe of them. You can’t be in awe of anybody in this league. You have to play the game, and we weren’t doing it in the first period.

On the learning experience for Gibson
I hope it was a good one. He looked great in practice, and during those first couple of saves. The last thing I wanted to do was pull him in his hometown. He fought back. He kept us in it with some really good saves. That’s the kind of character he has, and that’s what we’ll build on.
