Postgame Quotes: October 4 vs. San Jose

by Staff Writer / Anaheim Ducks

Postgame quotes following Anaheim's 2-1 overtime victory over the San Jose Sharks at Honda Center on Oct. 4, 2014

Corey Perry
On ending the preseason with a comeback victory

It’s nice. It shows that we’re never going to quit. It could be preseason, but we go out there and play the same way every night. Good things are going to happen from that. We limited their chances.

On his overtime goal
I just saw them playing two on the other side, so I had the lane to myself. I tried going down to Patty [Patrick Maroon] one time. It starts opening things up when you start shooting the puck and moving the puck around.

Ryan Kesler
On tonight’s game

We wanted to end it on a good note. We wanted to finish the preseason strong, and now we’re feeling good about our game going into the first game of the season. It was a solid effort. It was good to get a win and finish the preseason on a good note. That was important to us. You could see it in the effort. We were playing well for the first 59 minutes. We were taking some untimely penalties, but that happens. The guys never gave up. That’s a good sign. That’s a good sign of a great team.

On the penalty kill
It’s a pretty good power play over there. We did a good job of keeping them to the outside. When they got chances, Freddie [Frederik Andersen] shut the door and kept us in there.

Frederik Andersen
On tonight’s game

I felt good out there. They poured it on late in the game, but we stuck with it, battled through and came through with that last goal.

On the penalty kill
It was good. It was a bad thing that we took the penalties, but at least we made up for it. We have to be better at keeping our discipline.

On Kesler’s work on the PK
He works hard out there in all three zones, and it shows. He’s a big part of our PK. It’s good to see.

Head coach Bruce Boudreau
On if this was the intensity he was looking for

For a preseason game, especially in the third, you could see that they really wanted to [hold the lead]. We wanted not to get shut out. It’s a good way to end it. In the end, it’s just a preseason game, but it’s better than everyone going through the motions and trying to get the game over with.

On the excitement of starting the regular season
It’s hard playing games that don’t mean anything in the standings. It is such a tight conference. Every game is going to be intense. That’s what we love. I can’t wait until Thursday.
