POSTGAME QUOTES Anaheim 2 vs. Dallas 1 (OT) Oct. 31, 2014 American Airlines Center 9-3-0, 18 Standings Points
Corey Perry On the overtime goal It was a long shift in our own zone, but Cam [Fowler] made a great play to kick it out to me. I knew I had to get it by somebody because I knew somebody was going to the net. Nate [Thompson] made a great tip, and it found a way to get in.
On the message heading into overtime We knew they were going to be coming hard in the last 10 minutes because they had to get a goal. We kept playing the same way we wanted to play all game. We did a great job in the first 50 minutes. It’s nice to get two points and get out of here.
Nate Thompson On his OT winner It felt great. Whenever you score a goal, especially a big overtime goal, it feels good. It was just about Corey getting it on net. I managed to get my stick on it. On the penalty kill We’re not scoring a whole lot of goals, but we’re doing a great job of keeping pucks out of the net. Our penalty kill was big tonight, and you have to give it to Freddie Andersen. He was great. He made some big saves for us. Overall, it was a pretty good win.
On finding ways to win We’ll take them however we can get them. If we’re keeping them off the scoresheet, we’ll take it.
Head coach Bruce Boudreau On Perry’s performance He’s the one who gets it going when we need a goal. It was a perfect shot. And then in the overtime, he puts it at the net, and Nate [Thompson] picks a great time to get his first as a Duck.
On the message to the team after Dallas tied it late in regulation We didn’t mind taking as many faceoffs after their goal as possible, just to slow the momentum and the crowd down. At that point, we said Let’s take it to overtime. They had it in our zone for a little bit, but I thought we deserved it. We played really well. Any time you can hold this team to one shot in the second period, you deserve to win. On the penalty kill This is a tough team to play against. We know from experience. Any time you can come away with a win here, we’re happy. On winning in spite of a lack of scoring We’re learning how to play pretty good defensively. The goals, we feel, are going to come. As long as we can keep playing great defensively, and win those close games, you’re going to be successful.
