ANAHEIM DUCKS

Frederik Andersen

On the first two periods
We had better control in our zone, and they couldn’t get many shots off that were dangerous. We took a step [in the right direction], but we need to be better.

Kevin Bieksa
On the game
We played a lot better than the first game in San Jose. At times, we were all over them. I don’t think the shot total dictated the pressure in their end. We didn’t get enough shots on net, but nonetheless, I thought we controlled the game for the most part.

On facing his former team
It was fine. It was a lot better than I thought it would be. I was hoping once the game started, it would feel like a normal hockey game, and it did. There were a couple times when you looked over and it was a little different. Once the game started, it was business as usual.

Head Coach Bruce Boudreau
On the game
I thought we played better in a lot of areas. We kept them to 25 shots. We’re still doing things we can get better at, especially in the neutral zone. As far as playing a good team and playing them even, I thought we did a good job.

On the 4-on-3 power play
When you get those, you can’t force plays. We tried to force plays into areas that weren’t there. When that happens, and they clear it, it builds their momentum up and it tears ours down. It’s not a good thing. We have to get back to the drawing board when it comes to the 4-on-3s.

VANCOUVER CANUCKS

Alexandre Burrows

On the win
It’s huge. Any time you can get a point, especially against this team. They’re probably the top team, on paper, in the league and to come in on their home opener after they lost a game and battle them hard. I think we had some pressure moments, but we handled it well. We had some chances that gave us a chance until the end. We killed a big four-on-three in OT and Miller was huge again for us.

On his shootout goal
I thought about it and going into the shootouts now there is no more ice scrape, so the puck might be bouncing on you, so normally when I go backhand and deke, I’m afraid that it might roll on me. I’ve done this one a few times and I don’t think I’ve ever done it against Frederik (Andersen), so I did and lucky enough, it went in tonight.

Ryan Miller
On Sami Vatanen’s goal
I didn’t get a good look at it. It ended up going through (Ben Hutton). He felt bad, but we don’t want our defense going down or getting out of position. It got off his stick and found its way through.

Head Coach Willie Desjardins
On the game
It’s a tough building and they’re a good team. I think there were parts there where they cycled real well, but we cycled real well and Ryan (Miller) was real big again for us tonight.

On the penalty kill in overtime
Four-on-three is tough. They’ve got some really skilled guys out there. I thought our group defended well. We had a couple blocks and faceoffs were good too.
