ANAHEIM DUCKS

Frederik Andersen

On the goaltending duel with Martin Jones
He started off with a couple of good saves in the first period, and I tried to match that a little bit. Two teams playing pretty good defensively and offensively, too. You just have to keep battling to give the guys a chance to win. It didn’t go our way today. We played well, but we need more people in front of him. We need more shots. We either tried to deke too much, or pass it away too many times. We could generate more scoring chances that way.

On the Sharks generating momentum as the game went on
I don’t want to make excuses, but they had a game under their legs, and we were still in preseason mode, I think. We played pretty good.

Cam Fowler
On generating chances
They’re a team that comes out and plays excellent in this building. The first 10 minutes of the game, we controlled the pace of play. That’s what we wanted to do. They started getting their legs at the end of the first period. It’s tough to give up that goal with under a minute remaining in the second period. We hung around, and Freddie [Andersen] made some great saves to keep us in it. We just weren’t able to solve the goaltender tonight. Kudos to him for a great game.

On the positives from the game

We competed. We certainly didn’t give up, especially when we went down by one goal. We were there the whole time. There is stuff in our [defensive] zone that we can clean up, but two goals against a good team like that on the road; you give yourself a chance to win. We just weren’t able to solve the goaltender tonight.

Head Coach Bruce Boudreau
On the Sharks generating momentum
I thought the last seven minutes of the first period they were starting to shoot the puck like they can. They had some zone time. I thought the second period, for the first 15 minutes, were pretty even. Both teams had Grade-A chances. In the third period, they played better than us. They sustained pressure and out-changed us. I don’t know if that’s the benefit of already playing a game or not, but they’re a good hockey club.

On the positives from the game

We know how hard we have to work. It’s a game where they worked from beginning to end. We had spots where we were gliding. We can’t afford to do that.

SAN JOSE SHARKS

Patrick Marleau

On his second goal
I thought we had a two-on-one and I felt the guy. Then I saw the pass and I was suddenly on my own. I was able to take it around the net and got the wrap around on it.

Martin Jones
On team defense
I thought we did a really good job. That's a big team up front and typically they do a really good job getting to the front of the net with bodies and sticks. We showed a lot of character by how well we played and spending most of the third period in their end.

Head Coach Peter DeBoer

On the intensity of the game
It was a great hockey game. It was a great game to coach, to be a part of and great for the fans. There were two big teams going at it and great goaltending.
