Carl Hagelin

On his preseason debut
I was anxious to get out there and play a game. You realize how much you love the game when you go out there and play. Even though it was a preseason game, it felt really good to have played at least one game. We got the win, and I thought we had some pretty good puck possession.

On adjusting to game speed
It’s different. You do a lot of 3-on-2s in practice, and all of a sudden it’s 5-on-5. It’s going to be a process. I have to adjust to the people I play with, adjust to the system. I had an OK game on my part.

Shawn Horcoff
On the quick start
We came out really hard. Our last couple of games, we felt we played a little slow. Teams jumped on us. We talked about coming out really hard. I thought you saw that tonight. We really controlled the play in the first period, but we’re going to really want to work on playing 60 minutes.

Head Coach Bruce Boudreau
On Horcoff’s performance
I thought Shawn was skating the way we know he can skate. He was tenacious on the puck. When you do those things, you get rewarded. Tonight, he was rewarded with a goal.

On Hagelin’s debut
He did some good things, but you could tell he was jittery. Any time a guy comes onto a new team, he wants to over-impress. He missed a couple of shots, but what we saw, as coaches, was that he’s going to be a good addition to our team.

Jarome Iginla

On the game
They won it in the first period. They really outplayed us in the first. After that I thought we played well. I thought we started getting better. We got more scoring chances. They won the game, but from our point of view, you’d like to win every game you play but both teams are working on trying to get better and get ready for next week. We had a tough start; it was a good lesson for us in the first period. It will remind us to be ready, especially in a building like this against a good team like the Ducks. That was the difference.

On what he’s learned about the team in the preseason
I think we’re going to have a really good year. Being a young group, we’re one year older. Guys that were here last year weren’t happy with the way it went, but we also added some big pieces - some gritty guys, good hockey players that know their roles really well.
