ANAHEIM DUCKS

Ryan Kesler

On tonight’s game
I think it got away from us for six minutes. We were the better team tonight and we deserved better. We would’ve won that game in overtime if it kept going. It’s a shootout loss, and we were the better team tonight.

On goaltender Mike Smith
He played well and kept them in it, but I still think we should’ve won. We were definitely the better team.

Ryan Getzlaf
On tonight’s game
We should’ve done better throughout the whole game and played consistently, which is something we have to address right now. It’s a couple of mental mistakes and the pucks are in the back of our net. You have to take advantage of these games on home ice against divisional opponents.

On missed opportunities
We had opportunities to score goals and we weren’t able to get them by [Smith]. He made some saves and we missed some shots. That’s the way games go.

Head coach Bruce Boudreau
On tonight’s game
Except for the first five minutes of the second period, I thought we were pretty good. They’re a good skating club that was coming off of two wins. Those five minutes were the ones that gave them a chance to come back in the game. After that, it was pretty seesaw.

On the missed opportunities
We had so many Grade A chances. We have to score those. That’s what happens when you’re a team that’s averaging two goals a game for the last five or six games. You’re squeezing your sticks tight and the ones that are normally going in aren’t going in.

ARIZONA COYOTES

Shane Doan
On a big road win
When you come here and get a win, it’s huge. It’s a tough building to play in. We had to find a way to play our best and if we play our best we have a chance. Tonight we were good for probably about 40 minutes of the game.

On goaltender Mike Smith
He was huge. They had three or four power plays in a row in the third that obviously gave them momentum and we had to find a way to get it back. We had some chances and their goalie made some big saves for them as well.

Head coach Dave Tippett
On the win
We have to keep building our team. What you do is build the belief that you can win. Sometimes it’s not pretty. Tonight we took some penalties but we got through it. Mike Smith was excellent, and I thought we had some guys step up and play well for us. Some good energy players and we were able to get the points.

On goaltender Mike Smith
He was most competitive in a game when we needed big saves. And he gave us big saves. That’s a great sign. I think that’s really good for our whole psyche of our team when he plays like that.
