On the keys to tonight's victory
We felt in the first period, when we got it deep on these guys, we created situations. We tried to make it simple. Get the pucks down deep, and really work ourselves closer to the net.
On what head coach Bruce Boudreau said during the third period timeout
Just get pucks deep and make simple plays. Don’t try to do anything special. Just keep it simple, and work from there.
On the keys to staying fresh over the course of a 15-day road trip
Taking care of yourself off the ice. We have good trainers taking care of all the guys. I wouldn’t say we’ve played our best games on this road trip, but somehow we’ve been winning games.
On tonight's effort
You look at how hard the guys battled. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy. Buffalo is a great team. They’re young and fast. We just wanted to make sure we got on them right away, and that’s what we did. They were with us for a while, but I think our system kicked in and we played solid hockey, and we were able to battle it out.
On the Sabres
We knew they were going to come to play. It was no surprise they got on the board first. Our goal each and every game is to have a good start, and I don’t think we did that tonight. Couple things we need to work on, but I’m proud of how the guys battled back.
On the 15-day road trip
We’ve been a little bit unlucky with guys going down with injuries. You hate to see that, but the younger guys have stepped up and contributed in many different ways. We’ve just got to keep doing that from the younger guys, and see what happens.
On Monday’s game at Madison Square Garden
We’re trying to take it game-by-game here. We’re still not satisfied. We know we’re going [up against] a great New York Rangers team there. It’s going to be exciting; a first for a lot of guys. At the same time, it’s good to get this one in, and hopefully keep it going.
