POSTGAME QUOTES Florida 1 vs. Anaheim 3 Nov. 19, 2015 BB&T Center 7-9-4, 18 Standings Points
Jakob Silfverberg On scoring his first goal of the season It’s nice to get that zero out of the way. I’ve been working hard for it. Just haven’t been getting the bounces. It’s an empty-net goal, but at this point I’ll take whatever. Getzy [Ryan Getzlaf] made a great play to put it between the defenseman’s legs and I just tapped it in. It was a big goal for us and a big goal for me. We’re happy about this. On the 60-minute effort It means a lot, especially coming off of last game. We played great in Nashville. We just didn’t get the result we wanted. We said we were going to keep building on this and that’s what we did tonight. We stuck with it for the full 60 [minutes]. That’s huge. On Andersen’s bounce-back performance He’s a great goalie and he showed it tonight, bouncing back like he did. He was great for us. He made a couple of huge saves in the third. That’s what we expect out of him.
Cam Fowler On getting rewarded for a 60-minute effort It’s huge. Right now for our team, we feel like we’re trending in the right direction. I thought we put a great effort in Nashville. We didn’t get the result we wanted, but we came here and played a solid 60 minutes. We were able to get a good win against a good team. Hopefully we carry that into Tampa and end the road trip on a good note.
On his increased workload It’s big for me. When the coaching staff has confidence in you and they’re playing you big minutes, for me, personally, it really adds to my confidence and I feel like I’m starting to play my game. I try to contribute at both ends of the ice and help this team win. That’s what I’m focused on right now. I’m trying to take on a bigger role and do my part on the team. Hopefully I can continue to do my best to help us get some wins.
On goals from Cogliano and Silfverberg It was just a matter of time before those guys were going to light the lamp. They’re two of the hardest working guys on the team. I’m really happy for him, to see them get rewarded. You could tell by the smiles on their faces that it was a huge relief for them. That’s great when we get balanced scoring. That’s when we feel we’re at our best.
Head Coach Bruce Boudreau On the 60-minute effort The last two games have been really encouraging in terms of the way we played. We didn’t get the results in Nashville, but to go on the road and put 40 shots on both of those teams was quite impressive. It just kept going after the first period. Usually, we’ve had a lull in the past, but we didn’t in the second and we didn’t in the third. It’s really nice to see.
On special teams The penalty kill has been fabulous all year. We struggled a little bit on the power play, but we found a way to get a goal.
On Fowler’s contributions He’s a leader. It’s amazing how much he’s grown from the time I got here. He’s a leader on the ice and he’s a leader off the ice. That’s what we need.
