POSTGAME QUOTES Washington 3 vs. Anaheim 2 (SO) Feb. 6, 2015 Verizon Center 34-12-7, 75 Standings Points
Ilya Bryzgalov On his performance Tonight was a much better performance. I felt great with the stops and starts, and my positioning in net. I was very comfortable. On stopping Alex Ovechkin in the late stages of overtime Ben [Lovejoy] was pushing him to the side and he was coming in at a very high speed. We know how hard he shoots the puck. I tried to get the right angle and protect the net. Head Coach Bruce Boudreau On tonight’s game I thought our first period was really good. We held them to one scoring chance. But then we were on our heels for most of the game until they actually gained the lead. Then we started to play to win instead of playing not to lose. The same thing happened in Nashville. When you start playing not to lose, bad things usually happen. It’s the hardest thing in the world to keep the foot on the gas all the time. It’s a learning experience. If you can get a point out of a learning experience, that’s great.
On Bryzgalov and the team’s performance In the first period, they really worked hard to protect him. And in the second and third, Bryz worked really hard to protect our team. We weren’t getting anything done offensively. In that sense, it equaled out. Bryz did a really good job tonight. On offensive struggles tonight [Washington] is 9-0-1 in its last 10 home games. They know how to win. Like us, they’ve been involved in an awful lot of one-goal games. They kept coming. They were good tonight.
