ANAHEIM DUCKS

Corey Perry

On the difference between the first and second period
We got back on our heels. In the first period, we were getting the puck deep, we were physical, and we were on them. They’re a fast-skating club. When you give them no time and space, they can’t skate around you. The first period was the way we wanted to play tonight. I don’t know what happened in the second period.

On team focus

We’re trying to figure it out. We’re not making excuses for ourselves. We know what’s going on. We know we have to be better. We’re trying to figure it out in here as a group. Everybody has to do the little things, and the bigger things are going to happen.

Patrick Maroon
On the loss
We have to keep the focus, keep bringing that energy and being excited to go out there. Once we went back out there, we were flat-footed and they took it to us. We were turning pucks over and weren’t getting pucks in like we were in the first period. You saw what happened.

On if there is concern with the recent stretch of games
There are always concerns, but for us, we know we’re a good hockey team. We just need to take a step back. We have high expectations. We know we’re a good team. When we play at our best level, no one can beat us in this league. We play very strong hockey. We’re big and physical, but we’re getting away from that right now. We just need to focus on one game at a time.

Ben Lovejoy
On the second period
We relaxed and didn’t play nearly as well. We had far too many turnovers and couldn’t get the puck out of our zone. When we did get offensive zone time, it was one hope pass and it was done. We stopped playing.

On recent results
This is not how we want to be playing right now. We want to win 82 in a row, and then win all 16. We’re not doing that right now. We aren’t playing well. This isn’t a case of other teams coming in and beating us. When we’re playing the right way, our style, nobody is going to beat us. We’re not there right now. We need to get better.

Head Coach Bruce Boudreau
On the first and second periods
They turned it up a little bit, and we couldn’t match what they did. We’ve got to get better. They turned up their speed and we couldn’t match their speed. We didn’t take them out physically. When they’re allowed to skate, there’s a reason why they’re the highest scoring team in the league.

On the mindset of the team
I don’t think anybody is very happy with what’s going on. It’s up to us. We can’t hang our heads because every other team wants to win, too. We have to pull ourselves out of this. When we do, we’ll be a better team. We’d certainly like to see it sooner rather than later.

TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING

Steven Stamkos

On the game
I think we realized we had some good chances in the first. We missed them and their goalie made some saves. We just tried to get the puck in deep and utilize our speed. It was just a quiet confidence after the first to be honest. I know we were down, but it felt like we had more to give. I think that was one of our better periods of the year in the second. It really dictated the play and set it up for the third to play a solid road period and get out of here with a win.

On holding Anaheim to one goal
We had some success against them in Tampa. They’re a good team. They’re a big, strong, physical team. I think we’re built a little bit differently. We’re built with a lot of speed. If we can utilize our speed we’re going to give teams trouble. I think we did that tonight. It’s a big win for us. This is a tough building to play in. They’re having a good year and it’s a good response after being down in the first.

Ben Bishop

On getting four goals of support in the second period
It was nice. Any time you can keep putting the pressure on like that, we got one and guys kept going and took it to them. We did a good job after we got that lead to shut them down. We didn’t give them too much. It was a good all-around game, going down, coming back and then extending the lead and protecting it.

On the win

We know they’re a good team and we know they’re dangerous with a lead. It was important for us to come back and not get down too much. When they get two or three, it’s kind of hard to come back.

Head Coach Jon Cooper
On their California road trip
We took four of six points. But I felt that we were really disappointed we didn’t get anything out of the LA game. We were looking at this as an important swing. The month of February with eight road games and four at home, we have to make sure we can start winning these games on the road. If we’re fortunate to get in the playoffs, you have to win on the road. This was a test for us. By no means are we through the woods yet. We’ve got two tough games back-to-back coming up in a couple days. For us to sit back say ‘would you have liked six points,’ for sure, but we’ll take four.

On the game

To be honest, I don’t think we really had that bad of a first. They really came out hitting hard and I think that took us back a little bit and they scored. Big thing for us is how we answer after goals. That’s especially been a point we’ve emphasized coming on this trip. As soon as they got that goal, we turned our game around. Although we didn’t score in the first, we had some really, really good looks. The problem was we were passing up too many shots. The mandate in the second period was just keep getting pucks to the net no matter what. Fortunately for us we did, and they went in.
