Anaheim 1 vs. Florida 4
Feb. 17, 2017
30-19-10, 70 Standings Points
On the second period
We turned the puck over too much. That was the difference. Manson got caught. That was just an unlucky play. I was trying to make a play on the PK. Those are plays that sometimes make the difference. It could've been the difference. That play could've been a 2-on-1 for us, but they scored on the other end.
On the game
Tonight was a night where we could've made a comeback and gotten some points. The goals they scored were very preventable. We had some good chances and zone time, but the turnovers are the difference right now. If we want to be a good team as we start the stretch run, we need to limit them because those are the difference.
Head Coach Randy Carlyle
On pinpointing the turning point of the game
Turnovers. We turned the puck over way too many times. We fed their offense with our inability to execute with the puck. They turned the game in their favor with us gifting the puck to them.
On the state of the team
We need to get back to doing the things we can do. We had a little bit of a pushback for about 12 minutes, but once they called their timeout it settled them down. We didn't get much after that. Our power play didn't really create much. We score a shorthanded goal and you'd think the energy would turn in our favor. It did for a while, but we fed their offense with our turnovers.
On Reimer's play
He came up with some key saves. They got the first one, but then he didn't give up anything after that. That was huge for us.
On his line's play
As a line we felt pretty confident. We won the puck, created some turnovers, and supported each other which created a lot of chances throughout the game.
On the Panthers' defense
We did a great job. This is something we've been talking about after the last couple games. After giving up 15 goals in three games, we knew we had to be tighter defensively. The coaching staff did a great job of giving us the right message, and we did a good job of it.
On the Panthers' play
Anytime you can roll four lines and you have three sets of [defense], you can play in any situation. It really helps. It brings a certain confidence to our group. It's a prime example tonight, you get a huge game from [Sceviour]. He carried us the whole night. It was a huge effort from him and his line. We did a great job.
Head Coach Tom Rowe
On tonight's game
It's a poised group on the bench. We don't usually get too panicked. That's where Jagr comes in and Derek MacKenzie, the veteran guys, they keep the young kids calm. Obviously, we have a lot of skill so they make the plays, support the puck and when we get those chances we have the ability to bury them.
On forcing turnovers
I thought our guys were unbelievable in the neutral zone, especially our defensemen. They clogged it up. They stood up. We didn't give them any ice, which is what we talked about. The forwards came back really hard for the [defensemen]. That's how it goes, the forwards and the [defensemen] have to be connected and they worked great as a unit.
