John Gibson On a big divisional win We know it’s a big road trip. The team played great in front of me. Fourteen shots. Any time you give that up, you know you’re doing something right. I have to give a lot of credit to them. I was just trying to be there when they needed me.
On team defense We found a way to slow them down and clog the neutral zone. We know they’re a fast team. They have guys who are really skilled. We tried to clog it up. It worked out tonight. Hampus Lindholm On limiting Calgary’s chances The forwards really shrank the neutral for us, and it made it easy for us to gap up. It forced them to dump it in. Gibby [John Gibson] came up good for us tonight.
On neutralizing Johnny Gaudreau It was the same as in the playoffs. We wanted to have good gaps and limit their speed. Our neutral zone was good tonight. That was huge for us tonight. On raising their game in the absence of Cam Fowler You have to step it up. I see it as a challenge. We’re going to miss Cam, but we had a guy like Shea come up and play big for us. It’s fun to see how deep the organization is.
Shea Theodore On his NHL debut It was fun and fast. It’s good to have a nice atmosphere like that for your first game. On leading the team out for warmups As soon as they told me I was going to lead the boys out, I had a feeling. It was good. It got the nerves out a bit. You’re the only one out there. On his game plan I played it simple. It helps when you have a defense partner like Clayton Stoner. He’s a simple guy to play with. He made things easy.
