On getting himself mentally prepared
So far, I've done a couple of backup games, so I kind of know that when I jump in, I have to be ready. We were in the intermission, so I had time to get ready physically and mentally.
On the team's performance
They battled. They tried hard. [The Avs] have a good team over there. We took too many penalties, so we have to keep an eye on that. We have to be better.
Head Coach Randy Carlyle
On the game
We couldn't muster much offense tonight. We did a lot of chasing of the game. They had more legs than we did. They were a faster hockey club than we were tonight.
On Gibson's status
He's just day to day, just like [Ryan] Getzlaf.
On Berra's performance
He stood tall. He was called upon to make some big stops. That's never an easy situation. It was a tight game. We got it to 1-1. He gave us a chance, for sure.
On the power-play discrepancy
We have to learn. The slashing penalties we took tonight are new hockey rules that are being enforced. You can't slash or touch anybody with your stick in the hand or stick area.
