Anaheim 1 vs. LA 4
Feb. 25, 2017
32-21-10, 74 Standings Points
On the third period
We let them get all the momentum. By that time, it was tough getting back into the game.
On Toffoli's game-tying goal
I have to be more aware of Toffoli in front, but when it first happened, I thought it was underneath his paddle. I hesitated for a second, but I still have to see the play through and make sure I tie up his stick. That one is on me.
On the inability to close the game out
You can't do it every time. You could tell they were hungrier and more desperate in the third. We made it easier on them than it should've been. In a tie hockey game, you can't give up a 2-on-1 like that. After that, we're only down one. At that point, they scored 15 seconds later. It's just the way it happened that's disappointing. The way we let them get momentum back into the game is disappointing.
On the upcoming bye week
It's been a grind of a season. A lot of games in a short amount of time. The guys will welcome the break. If there's nothing bothering them physically, at least it's just a bit of a mental break. It's a long season mentally and physically. I'm looking forward to a little bit of down time and being refreshed for the last leg of the season.
On drawing the first two penalties
I was trying to get my legs going. Giving our top guys the opportunity on the power play is big. If we can win the specialty teams battle and get them out there more, the better team we'll be.
On meeting his new teammates
I got in around midnight. I met everyone at breakfast this morning. There were a couple familiar faces I know. It was an easy room to walk into.
Head Coach Randy Carlyle
On the turning point
We made too many individual mistakes. We gave them the puck. You can't make those types of mistakes in the areas we made them. They took advantage of them.
On the game
It was a very energetic hard-fought hockey game. In the end, they were better than we were today.
On the message heading into the bye week
Just rejuvenate and reenergize themselves for the next push. We're going to have a lot of hockey coming out of the break.
