Matt Beleskey played in his fourth season in the NHL during 2011-12, appearing in a career-high 70 games with the Ducks.
A former fourth round pick of Anaheim in 2006, Beleskey has now appeared in 167 total games with the club during his career. He has displayed a scoring touch at times, including 11 goals with the club in 2009-10. This past season, Beleskey set a new career-best with 11 assists (nearly doubling his previous totals in that category). Another high note for Beleskey was his ability to drop the gloves, which accounted for the bulk of his career-high 72 PIM. He fought a total of eight times in 2011-12, bringing his career fight card to 13 professional bouts in the league. The 6-0, 204-pounder also dished out 104 hits, tying him for seventh on the Ducks in that category.Highlight
While Andrew Cogliano garnered much of the attention with a hat trick on January 31 at Phoenix, Beleskey also had a strong night in the desert as one of his linemates. The left wing provided a beautiful feed
to Cogliano in front of the net for his first of the three goals in a span of 6:51 of the second period. Beleskey would finish the game with the one assist and a season-high plus-three rating in the 4-1 Ducks road victory.By the Numbers90
, points scored by Beleskey in his final junior season with the Belleville Bulls of the Ontario Hockey League in 2007-08. That mark was tops on the team, as was the 33 points (third in the league) he totaled in 21 playoff games. Helping lead the way, he and the Bulls won the Bobby Orr Trophy as Eastern Conference champions and finished one game shy of the league title. Still just 24 years old, Beleskey will be entering his fifth season in the league with the Ducks in 2012-13. The left wing had a boost in production upon the team’s hiring of Bruce Boudreau on Nov. 30, 2011. He tallied all 15 of his points on the year (including one in each of the first three games of the Boudreau era) under the guidance of the new head coach.
Beleskey has one year remaining on his current contract, and has the ability to play on either wing. He has proven he can bounce around different forward lines during his tenure with the Ducks, including some action at times with Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf. Beleskey owns a bulldog named Karl, who he jokes has become a rising celebrity and can be booked for shootings. He graduated from St. Jospeh’s High School in Barrie, Ontario in 2006. A Toronto Blue Jays fan, he lists Jose Bautista as his favorite athlete outside of hockey. His favorite TV show is “Sons of Anarchy” on FX and favorite all-time movie is “Dumb and Dumber.”
