More than 35 girls ages 4 to 12 took part in the Girls Try Hockey for Free Day at THE RINKS – Westminster ICE presented by Honda on Saturday afternoon.
Held in conjunction with the Anaheim Ducks Learn to Play Program, the free session provided the girls with skates, shoulder and elbow pads, shun guards, a helmet, hockey pants, gloves and a jersey for the one-hour session. The girls received instruction from Anaheim Lady Ducks coaches and players on the basics of hockey as well as how to skate properly.
The event coincided with the International Ice Hockey Federation’s (IIHF) World Girls’ Ice Hockey Weekend. As part of the global IIHF awareness campaign, local participants were encouraged to bring a friend for the one-hour session.
