Murray Comments on Trade Deadline Deals

by Staff Writer / Anaheim Ducks
Ducks Executive Vice President and General Manager Bob Murray commented today on the Ducks' trade deadline day deals. The Ducks acquired LW Brad Winchester from St. Louis in exchange for a 2012 third-round draft pick and acquired center prospect Joel Perrault and a 2011 third-round pick from Vancouver for center Maxim Lapierre and MacGregor Sharp.

On acquiring Winchester

We’ve been experimenting with a bunch of different things on the bottom 6. We just decided at this point in time we have Todd [Marchant] playing center and Brandon McMillan emerging as a center, and [Kyle] Chipchura, and Max is a right-handed shot. Maybe if we could move Max, and maybe use that asset to get a bigger left-handed shot, a physical guy, that was what we were trying to do. We were trying to get a little more size. Some of the teams in our conference are big teams and we just felt we had to add some size.

Brad plays both ends of the ice and he plays hard. We tried to get him last year in free agency and he wanted to go back to St. Louis. I told him today, “Now we got ya.”

On losing Lapierre
Nothing against Max. He played hard for us. But we had this opportunity and we took it.

On Perrault
He’s going to stay in Winnipeg for the time being. He’s playing on a playoff-bound team there. He’s coming off an ankle sprain, so he’s about a week and a half away. He’s good depth for us. He was drafted by Anaheim years ago and we know him. He’s really good depth for us.
