by Staff Writer / Anaheim Ducks

San Diego Gulls defenseman Brandon Montour was named to the 2015-16 AHL First All-Star Team, as voted by coaches, players and media in each of the league’s 30 member cities, the American Hockey League announced today.

Selected by Anaheim in the second round (55th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft, Montour ranks third among all AHL rookies and ranks second among all defensemen in scoring this season, with 12-43--55 points in 64 games for playoff-bound San Diego. The 21-year-old native of Brantford, Ont., also leads the entire league in power-play scoring, contributing a point on 30 of the Gulls’ 51 power-play goals on the year. Montour, who turned pro last spring after completing his freshman season at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, is the first rookie blueliner named to the First All-Star Team since Justin Schultz and Sami Vatanen in 2012-13.
