The Ducks announced today that the Mini 1-on-1 Shootout Tournament will be back for a seventh season. The competition will see youth hockey shooters face-off against goalies in a shootout competition for grand prizes including a trip to the 2017 NHL All-Star Game, opportunity to play against Ducks players and a shopping spree to Hockey Giant. The competition will feature seven divisions including Mite, Squirt, Pee Wee, Bantam and High School along with two new female-only divisions (Pee Wee and Bantam). The competition kicks off in October with four qualifying rounds: October 8 – Yorba Linda ICE, October 13 – Anaheim ICE, October 15 – Westminster ICE and October 29th – San Diego Ice Arena. The top four shooters and goalies from each age group will then move on to the semifinals held at Honda Center. The competition will then be narrowed down until there are two remaining shooters and goalies in each age group that will compete during the intermission of a Ducks game to determine this year’s Mini 1-on-1 champion.
Last year, the competition sold out with more than 560 local youth hockey players participating. The Squirt Division champions - Sam Straff (goalie) and Christian Kim (shooter) - had the opportunity to represent the Ducks against other NHL team winners at the NHL All-Star Weekend in Nashville, Tennessee. Straff and Kim took home the NHL Championship Trophy by defeating the Nashville Predators, Chicago Blackhawks, Washington Capitals and Boston Bruins in front of a capacity crowd.
Any participant who registers by Friday, September 16th will receive 20% off their registration fee. In addition, participants will receive a ticket to a Ducks game, stick bag and entry into the competition.
