ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed right wing Shane Hynes to a three-year entry-level contract. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal were disclosed.
“Shane has a chance to be an NHL player, having good size and hockey sense,” said Executive Vice President/General Manager Brian Burke. “We look forward to seeing and evaluating him at training camp.”
As a junior at Cornell University in 2004-05, the 6-2, 224-pound Hynes recorded 7-21=28 points with 40 penalty minutes (PIM) in 33 games played. He finished second on the Big Red in points, setting career highs in games played, assists and points last season. In 95 career games at Cornell, the Montreal, Quebec native has collected 27-39=66 points with 130 PIM.
Hynes, 21 (11/7/83), was selected by Anaheim in the third round (86th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
