The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has reassigned center Zenon Konopka and left wing Trevor Gillies to the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Konopka, 24 (1/2/81), appeared in his first five career NHL games following his recall on Oct. 29. He has earned 1-0=1 point with two penalty minutes, scoring his first NHL goal on Nov. 6 vs. Minnesota.
Konopka has also played in seven games with Portland this season, earning 2-6=8 points with 10 penalty minutes and a +8 rating. The 6-1, 213-pound forward agreed to terms on a two-year contract with Anaheim on Sept. 1, 2004.
A native of Cambridge, Ontario, Gillies appeared in his first NHL game on Nov. 6 vs. Minnesota, going scoreless with 21 penalty minutes. The 26-year-old (1/30/79) forward has played in eight games with Portland this season, scoring 1-1=2 points with 35 penalty minutes and a +4 rating. The 6-3, 210 pounder has played in 156 career AHL games, scoring 3-5=8 points with 780 penalty minutes.
Gillies was acquired with a conditional draft pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft from the New York Rangers in exchange for Steve Rucchin on Aug. 23, 2005.
