Kunitz to Have Hand Surgery

by Staff Writer / Anaheim Ducks

The Anaheim Ducks announced today that left wing Chris Kunitz will undergo surgery Tuesday morning to repair a broken bone in his right hand. Kunitz is doubtful to return this postseason. He suffered the injury late in the third period of Game 1 vs. Detroit.

"It's a tough pill to swallow," Kunitz said Monday. "But the body can only handle so much, so I don't have much choice in the matter."

Kunitz has appeared in 11 playoff games this season, scoring 1-5=6 points after scoring 25-35=60 points in 81 regular season games. Kunitz appeared in his first full NHL season in 2005-2006, scoring 19-22=41 points in 67 games. He added 3-5=8 points in 16 playoff games last season.

A native of Regina, Sask., Kunitz was claimed on waivers from Atlanta on Oct. 18, 2005. He was originally signed by Anaheim as a free agent on April 1, 2003.
