Koivu to be Honored for 1,000th Game

Saku Koivu, who reached the 1,000 NHL game milestone Monday night at Colorado (March 12), will be honored by the Ducks and the NHL tonight at Honda Center in a pregame ceremony. He will be presented with gifts from the team and the National Hockey League.


On Monday, Koivu became the fifth Finnish-born player to reach the 1,000-game milestone. The previous four are: Teppo Numminen (1,372 GP), Teemu Selanne (currently 1,329 GP), Jari Kurri (1,251 GP) and Olli Jokinen (currently 1,029 GP). In addition, Koivu was the 33rd European-born player to appear in 1,000 games.

Koivu has earned 236-534=770 points with 741 PIM and a +9 rating in 1,000 games with Montreal and Anaheim. He has scored 40-or-more points in 13 of his 16 NHL seasons.
