by Staff Writer / Anaheim Ducks

Forty-eight teams from across the country made their way to Honda Center on Tuesday night for the opening ceremonies that kicked off the 2011 USA Hockey Tier II National Championships taking place this week in Southern California.

THE RINKS – Anaheim ICE will be the host facility for the event, which runs through Sunday, April 3. Tournament events will be held at four different Orange County venues, including Honda Center, THE RINKS – Anaheim ICE, THE RINKS – Westminster ICE and the Orange County Hockey Club (Yorba Linda).

The 2011 Tier-II Girls National Championships will feature four divisions comprised of 12 teams within each division age group (19 & Under, 16 & Under, 14 & Under and 12 & Under). Honda Center will host the Opening Ceremonies on Tuesday, Mar. 29 beginning at 6 p.m. Guest speakers include two medal winners from the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver: former Duck and Olympic gold-medal winner Scott Niedermayer will be joined at center ice by Natalie Darwitz, captain of the USA Women’s Olympic Hockey team that brought home silver.

Tournament competition begins on Wednesday, Mar. 30, culminating in the respective division championship games at Anaheim ICE on Sunday, Apr. 3. Tournament passes are $35.00 for adults and $20.00 for kids age 5-17. Single-day passes are also available (adults: $13.00; kids: $5.00) at Anaheim ICE, Westminster ICE and the Orange County Hockey Club.

With THE RINKS development program launch in February 2009, the Ducks now operate four local skating facilities: two ice rinks and two inline facilities. Westminster ICE was added in August 2009, joining locations in Anaheim (THE RINKS - Anaheim ICE), Corona (THE RINKS - Corona Inline) and Huntington Beach (THE RINKS - Huntington Beach Inline). In addition to youth and adult hockey programs, Anaheim ICE and Westminster ICE offer figure skating, a learn-to-skate program, broomball, curling and public skating.
