|Troy Bodie's "Bodie" licious Roll was the big winner on the night.
Forward Troy Bodie was the big winner at the second annual Get Your Anaheim Ducks in a Roll event Monday night at RA Sushi at The District at Tustin Legacy.
Bodie, along with teammates Corey Perry
and Sheldon Brookbank
, competed in a sushi rolling contest with the help of RA Sushi chefs. Each player created original sushi roll recipes that were sampled by the more than 200 people in attendance. Each roll was then rated by a panel of judges, who reviewed each roll based on the most creative name, ingredients, presentation and taste. A vote was also given to the roll that was the top seller of the night. (Ryan Getzlaf
was originally scheduled to attend, but was recovering from wisdom tooth surgery. Todd Marchant, who was in attendance because his son Tim was on the judging panel, was a last-minute spokesman for Getzlaf.)
The “Bodie” licious Roll – with signature ingredients that included spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, avocado, jalapeño bits and poki sauce – was the big winner, although the top seller of the night was Brookbank’s "Bank Roll," (shrimp tempura, albacore, cucumber, yellowtail, salmon and wasabi tobiko with sweet eel sauce).
Perry’s "Perry” dise Roll included kani kama crab and cucumber rolled and topped with kani kama crab mix and spice albacore. Getzlaf’s Great “Getz”-by Roll had yellowtail, salmon, avocado, cream cheese and jalapeno rolled in soy paper.
The Anaheim Ducks Foundation received $2 for each sushi order, while a raffle for Ducks prizes was also held during the night, raising almost $1,300 in all.
The “Bodie” licious Roll will be on the menu of RA locations in Tustin, Huntington Beach, Chino Hills and Corona starting October 13, the date of the Ducks’ home opener. It will remain on the menu the entire Ducks season, with $2 from each order going to the Anaheim Ducks Foundation.
