The Ducks have announced that THE RINKS- Anaheim ICE and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) will partner for the fourth annual “April Skate” on Sunday, Apr. 22 from 1-3 p.m. The fundraiser will be held in memory of April Whang, a former long-time Anaheim ICE employee whose life was tragically taken at age 26 by a drunk driver on Feb. 1, 2009. All proceeds from the “April Skate” will benefit MADD Orange County to help continue the fight to stop drunk driving, support the victims of violent crime and prevent underage drinking.
Admission to the “April Skate” will cost $10, which includes skate rentals for a two-hour open skate session. In addition, the event features raffle and silent auctions items such as autographed Anaheim Ducks memorabilia, hockey equipment and gift certificates for hotels within the Anaheim resort area. A deejay will also be on hand to provide music for the fundraiser.
April Whang was a long-time employee of the Ultimate Skate and Hockey Pro Shop, located within Anaheim ICE. A graduate of Sunny Hills High School, April was known for her warm smile and kind spirit. A former figure skater, April is survived by her parents, Kyung and Brian Whang and her sister, Kimberly.

With THE RINKS Development Program presented by Honda launch in February 2009, the Ducks now operate five local skating facilities: two ice rinks and three inline facilities. Irvine Inline, the most recent addition, joined the program in Sept. 2011, while Westminster ICE was added in August 2009. The two facilities join original locations in Anaheim (THE RINKS - Anaheim ICE), Corona (THE RINKS - Corona Inline) and Huntington Beach (THE RINKS - Huntington Beach Inline). In addition to youth and adult hockey programs, Anaheim ICE and Westminster ICE offer figure skating, a learn-to-skate program, broomball, curling and public skating.
