The evening will highlight community and organizational efforts to promote sustainability and eco-friendly practices. Twelve-year-old environmentalist and Orange County native, Ryan Hickman, along with his organization Ryan's Recycling will be in attendance educating fans on the importance of recycling prior to the game in the Puck Drop Patio. For his dedication to the community, Hickman will be recognized as the Ducks Community Hero during a pre-game on-ice ceremony and throughout the evening, including highlights of the recent collaboration between Ryan, the Ducks and Kings as they teamed up for a beach clean-up Apr. 5 in Long Beach, Calif.
A pre-game reception will be held at Puck Drop Patio at Honda Center beginning at 5:30 p.m. through the second intermission where Ducks fans and Green Night supporters will be able to learn more about Ryan's Recycling initiatives while enjoying food trucks that will feature a variety of plant-based dining options. Along with Anaheim mayor, Harry Sidhu, the Ducks will recognize the 18 winners from Anaheim City Schools that participated in the City of Anaheim Water Conservation's Poster Contest during the pre-game ceremony. Anaheim Public Utilities will also be on-site to promote Tree Power, their community planting initiative educating residents on the climate benefits of native landscaping.
In support of Green Night, 10,000 fans will receive their own set of reusable straws following the game. About Ryan's Recycling:
In 2012 at the age of 3, Ryan went along with his dad to the local recycling center and cashed in a few small bags of cans and bottles and decided that recycling was in his future. The day after going to the recycling center, Ryan notified his mom and dad that he wanted to give empty plastic bags to all the neighbors and maybe they would save their recyclables for him. Today, Ryan has customers all over Orange County, CA and has recycled over a million cans and bottles. His goal is to recycle in order to keep cans and bottles from reaching the ocean where it's harmful to the environment. Along with being a finalist for TIME Magazine's KID OF THE YEAR award in 2020, Ryan has been honored by numerous media outlets for his efforts including the Ellen DeGeneres show, Good Morning America and the TODAY SHOW.
