More than 80 teams will participate in the tournament, which will have mobile blood units onsite for individuals who wish to donate blood. To date, the Give Blood Play Hockey tournament has collected over 600 pints of blood and donated more than $125,000 to CHOC. The tournament currently has a pledge of $100,000 to build an Oncology Patient Room in the new wing of the hospital, scheduled to open in 2013.
Tournament divisions range from youth to adult and are split between various skill levels from beginner through advanced. The event is open to the general public, which is encouraged to take an active role in donating blood during the three-day tournament. The Anaheim Ducks Street Team will also be on hand for the tournament kick-off on Friday at 5 p.m. On Saturday, Wild Wing and the Anaheim Ducks Power Players will help assist in a check presentation from Give Blood Play Hockey to CHOC.
