ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed defenseman Brendan Mikkelson to a three-year, entry-level contract. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal were disclosed.

"We are extremely pleased to have signed Brendan Mikkelson," said Executive Vice President and General Manager Brian Burke. "He is a strong and fluid skater with good puck sense."

Mikkelson, 19 (6/22/87), has collected 0-13=13 assists with 24 penalty minutes (PIM) in 25 games this season with the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League (WHL). Last season, the Regina Sask., native split the season between Portland (WHL) and Vancouver, registering 2-9=11 points with 41 PIM in 22 games played.

The 6-2, 200-pound blueliner is playing in his fourth WHL season, collecting 10-44=54 points with 168 PIM in 182 career WHL games. Mikkelson has played in 12 career WHL playoff games and scored 2-2=4 points.

Mikkelson was drafted by Anaheim in the second round (31st overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
