The Ducks have signed defenseman Jaycob Megna
to a three-year entry-level contract. Per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Megna, 21 (12/10/92), scored 4-18=22 points with 40 penalty minutes in 105 career games with Nebraska-Omaha of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) and formerly the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). The 6-5, 218-pound defenseman was named to the 2013 All-WCHA All-Academic Team and named a 2013 WCHA Scholar-Athlete after finishing with career highs in assists (5) and points (7) during his sophomore season with Nebraska-Omaha.
Selected by Anaheim in the seventh round (210th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, Megna set a career high with 10 assists in 32 games with the Mavericks this season as a first-year member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference. He ranked third among team defensemen in assists, helping Nebraska-Omaha to a third-place finish with a 13-9-2 conference record and a first-round playoff series vs. the University of Denver. A native of Plantation, Florida, Megna earned 2013-14 NCHC Academic All-Conference Honors in his junior season with the Mavericks.
