The Ducks have recalled defenseman Sami Vatanen
from the Norfolk Admirals, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). In addition, the Ducks have reassigned left wing Emerson Etem
Vatanen, 22 (6/3/91), earned 6-15=21 points with a +9 rating and 22 PIM in 48 regular-season games for the Ducks in 2013-14. He finished the regular season tied for fifth among rookie NHL defensemen and co-led Anaheim blueliners in goals. In 56 career NHL games, Vatanen has collected 8-15=23 points with a +12 rating and 22 penalty minutes (PIM).
Selected by Anaheim in the fourth round (106th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Vatanen appeared in five of Norfolk’s postseason contests, recording 0-3=3 points with a +2 rating and four PIM. Among team leaders, he co-led in assists and ranked tied for second in points. The 5-10, 183-pound defenseman scored 2-5=7 points with four PIM in eight regular-season games with Norfolk in 2013-14. In 70 career AHL games, the Jyvaskyla, Finland native has collected 11-41=52 points with 48 PIM.
Etem, 21 (6/16/92), went scoreless in four postseason games with the Ducks. The Long Beach, California native appeared in 29 regular-season games with Anaheim in 2013-14, earning 7-4=11 points with a +3 rating and four PIM. Selected in the first round (29th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Etem has appeared in 67 career contests with the Ducks, collecting 10-11=21 points with a +10 rating and 13 PIM. In 11 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, he has 3-2=5 points with a +4 rating and 14 PIM.
The 6-1, 206-pound winger played 50 regular-season contests with the Admirals in 2013-14, scoring 24-30=54 points with a +14 rating and 10 PIM. He led the team in scoring and assists, co-led in plus/minus, ranked second in goals and third in PPG (7). In 97 career AHL contests, he has 38-33=71 points with a +14 rating and 24 PIM.
