The Ducks have recalled defenseman Sami Vatanen
from the Norfolk Admirals, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Vatanen, 22 (6/3/91), has earned 1-4=5 points with a +3 rating and eight penalty minutes (PIM) in 17 games with the Ducks this season. Vatanen scored his third career NHL goal and first of the season on Nov. 2 at Buffalo as part of a 6-3 Ducks win. The 5-10, 183-pound defenseman returns to Anaheim tied for fourth among team blueliners in scoring and fourth in shots (25).
Selected by Anaheim in the fourth round (106th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Vatanen has earned 3-4=7 points with a +6 rating and eight PIM in 25 career NHL games. He made his NHL debut on Feb. 1, 2013 vs. Minnesota and scored his first career goal on Apr. 17, 2013 vs. Columbus (Bobrovsky).
The Jyvaskyla, Finland, native was reassigned to Norfolk on Nov. 14 and scored 1-2=3 points with a +1 rating in two games with the Admirals. He has appeared in 64 career AHL games with Norfolk, collecting 10-38=48 points with a +1 rating and 44 PIM.
