by Staff Writer / Anaheim Ducks

The Ducks have recalled defensemen Shea Theodore and Korbinian Holzer from the San Diego Gulls, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Meanwhile, Anaheim has placed defensemen Simon Despres and Clayton Stoner on Injured Reserve.

Theodore, 20 (8/3/95), earned one assist (0-1=1) with a +3 rating in two games with San Diego this season. He has appeared in 15 career AHL games with San Diego and Norfolk, scoring 4-7=11 points with two penalty minutes (PIM). The 6-2, 195-pound blueliner was named the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) Defenseman of the Year in 2014-15. Theodore concluded his WHL career as Seattle’s all-time leader in goals (58) and points (212) by a defenseman. Selected by Anaheim in the first round (26th overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft, Theodore has yet to make his NHL debut.

Holzer, 27 (2/16/88), was scoreless in two games with the Gulls this season. Acquired from Toronto in exchange for Eric Brewer and a fifth-round selection in the 2016 NHL Draft on Mar. 2, 2015, Holzer has collected 2-7=9 points with 55 PIM in 58 career NHL games with the Maple Leafs. The 6-3, 215-pound defenseman spent the majority of last season with the Leafs, posting career highs in points (0-6=6), assists, plus/minus (+3) and appearances. Holzer ranked fourth on Toronto in penalty kill time-on-ice (2:21) at the time of his acquisition by Anaheim. He was on the Ducks roster through the regular season and playoffs but has yet to make his debut with the club.
