The Ducks have recalled center Rickard Rakell
from the Norfolk Admirals, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Rakell, 20 (5/5/93), has appeared in seven contests with Anaheim this season, scoring 0-1=1 point with two penalty minutes (PIM). Rakell made his season debut on Nov. 4 at the New York Rangers and notched his first career NHL point (assist) on Nov. 8 vs. Buffalo. The 6-1, 192-pound center appeared in 43 games for Norfolk this season, collecting 14-23=37 points with a +10 rating and 12 PIM. At the time of his recall, Rakell co-led the Admirals in points, assists and plus/minus, ranked second in power-play goals (8) and tied for second in goals.
Selected in the first round (30th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Rakell made his NHL debut on Jan. 19, 2013 at Vancouver as the sixth youngest player to appear in a game for the Ducks at 19 years, eight months and 14 days. A native of Sundbyberg, Sweden, Rakell played four games with Anaheim in 2012-13, going scoreless. Rakell spent the rest of 2012-13 with Plymouth of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), collecting 21-23=44 points with a +19 rating and 12 PIM in 40 games.
