The Ducks recalled defenseman Brendan Mikkelson from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League (AHL). At the same time, the Ducks have reassigned goaltender Joey MacDonald to the Marlies.

Mikkelson, 22 (6/22/87), has recorded 0-2=2 points with 12 penalty minutes (PIM) in 25 contests for Anaheim this season. The 6-3, 205-pound blueliner was originally recalled from Toronto on Oct. 11 and again on Feb. 25 and Mar. 23. In 56 career NHL games, Mikkelson has scored 0-4=4 points with 25 PIM. In 49 games this season with the Marlies, the Regina, Saskatchewan native earned 7-15=22 points with 43 PIM. Among team defensemen, Mikkelson ranked first in goals, tied for first in points and second in assists at the time of his recall.

Selected by Anaheim in the second round (31st overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Mikkelson made his NHL debut on Jan. 2, 2009 vs. Philadelphia and earned his first career NHL point with an assist in a 4-3 victory on Jan. 31, 2009 at Colorado. Mikkelson began the 2008-09 regular season with Anaheim’s then-AHL affiliate in Iowa, earning 2-8=10 points and 18 PIM in 31 games. In 145 career AHL games, Mikkelson has earned 15-33=48 points with 111 PIM. In 2008, he helped the Portland Pirates to an AHL Eastern Conference Finals appearance, earning 2-6=8 points in 14 Calder Cup Playoff games.

MacDonald, 30 (2/7/80), who was recalled from Toronto on Apr. 2, did not appear in a game for Anaheim. He began the 2009-10 season with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization and was acquired by Anaheim in exchange for a seventh-round selection in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft on Mar. 3. In six contests with the Maple Leafs, MacDonald went 1-4-0 with a 3.20 goals-against average (GAA) and .892 save percentage (SV%). He shared a 3-0 shutout with Jonas Gustavsson on Dec. 1 at Montreal, turning away all 18 shots he faced.

In 36 contests with the Marlies this season, MacDonald has posted a 14-19-7 record with a 3.18 GAA and .893 SV%. The 6-0, 197-pound netminder recorded a pair of shutouts with the Marlies, including Mar. 12 at Chicago (40 shots) and Oct. 20 vs. Adirondack (19 shots). MacDonald has appeared in 72 NHL contests with Detroit, Boston, NY Islanders and Toronto, going 18-38-9 with a 3.30 GAA and .900 SV%.
