Ducks Recall Gibson, Reassign LaBarbera

The Ducks have recalled goaltender John Gibson from the Norfolk Admirals, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).In addition, the Ducks have reassigned goaltender Jason LaBarbera to Norfolk.

Gibson, 21 (7/14/93), posted a 1-1-0 record with a 3.05 goals-against average (GAA) and .902 save percentage (SV%) in two games with Norfolk. Reassigned to Norfolk on Oct. 15, Gibson stopped 32-of-34 shots en route to a 3-2 win in his AHL season debut on Oct. 17 vs. Manchester. The 6-3, 216-pound goaltender has appeared in 48 career AHL games with Norfolk, going 22-18-4 with five shutouts, a 2.40 GAA and .917 SV%.

Selected in the second round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft (39th overall), Gibson made his season debut on Oct. 9 at Pittsburgh, stopping 33-of-39 shots in a 6-4 loss. The Pittsburgh, PA native made his NHL debut last season with Anaheim, posting a 3-0-0 record with a 1.33 GAA and .954 SV% in three games. He became the youngest NHL goalie (20 years, 297 days) since Buffalo's Darren Puppa (Nov. 1, 1985 @ EDM; 20 years, 223 days) to record a shutout in his NHL debut after stopping all 18 shots for a 3-0 win, Apr. 7 @ VAN.

LaBarbera, 34 (1/18/80), did not appear in a game following his Oct. 15 recall from Norfolk. Signed as a free agent on July 1, 2014, LaBarbera turned away 33-of-37 shots for a 5-4 victory in his season debut with Norfolk on Oct. 11 vs. Hershey.

Selected by the New York Rangers in the third round (66th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, LaBarbera has gone 60-73-19 with six shutouts, a 2.86 GAA and .907 SV% in 182 career NHL games with the New York Rangers, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Phoenix and Edmonton. LaBarbera set career highs in wins (17) and appearances (45) in 2007-08 with Los Angeles and recorded a career-best two shutouts in 2008-09 with Los Angeles and 2010-11 with Phoenix.
