ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled right wing Dustin Penner from the Portland Pirates, Anaheim’s American Hockey League affiliate (AHL).
Penner, 23 (9/28/82), has appeared in 15 games this season with Anaheim, earning 4-3=7 points with 12 penalty minutes and a +3 rating. The 6-4, 245-pound winger recorded the game-winning goal in Anaheim’s 4-1 win over Chicago on Sunday, February 12. He scored his first NHL goal and tied a franchise rookie record for goals in a game with 2-1=3 points on Nov. 30 vs. Phoenix.
With the Pirates, the Winkler, Manitoba native has played in 40 games this season, earning 30-31=61 points with a plus/minus rating of +28. His leads the Portland club in goals, power play goals (10) and plus/minus, while co-leading the team in points (Ryan Shannon also has 18-43=61 points).
Penner was signed as a free agent by Anaheim on May 12, 2004.
